Emily Gurwitz is a band director and private flute instructor in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Trinity University in San Antonio and her Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has been a middle school band director for over twenty years and her bands have placed in the top 4 at the TMEA Area Honor Band competitions multiple times. She has been a private flute instructor for over twenty-five years. Ms. Gurwitz has taught at many masterclasses, Region Band Clinics and Concerts, and various band camps over the years, including the Texas Lutheran University Summer Music Academy and the Interlochen Summer Academy in Michigan.
Ms. Gurwitz regularly has had high school flute students qualify for the Texas TMEA All-State Bands or Orchestras (Texas All-State flute players are approximately the top 35 flute players selected each year from the state of Texas from a series of District, Region, and Area Competitions) from her flute studio, and her flute students have placed in the 6A/5A All-State Bands over twenty-five times, including placing first, second, and third in Texas. Along with teaching private flute lessons, she has taught at many summer band and marching band camps, and performed on flute in various wind ensembles. Ms. Gurwitz has been married to Elliott Gurwitz since 1996 and they have two children.
